WHAT WE CAN CONTROL
1. Thoughts
2. Feelings
3. Actions and reactions
Above are the notes I took from District Counsel yesterday, and I love this topic that Elder Madsen chose.
My Dad has always talked about "magnifying your calling". I've had a couple callings before, like Quorom Presidents, Secretary, Bishop Assistant, and the magnification of my calling was different each time.
But what does "magnifying your calling" really mean?
I love the word "diligence" that is repeated in the scriptures that I shared above. Diligence: conscientiousness in paying proper attention to a task; giving the degree of care required in a given situation. Persevering determination to perform a task. When we magnify our calling, it is our focus. It is what we think about and pray for daily. The consecration of our time to fulfill our calling is our sacrifice to the Lord to show how much we love him.
I'm eternally grateful for this opportunity to consecrate two years of my life to the Lord, and am so excited for the opportunity to serve in the church when I get home. From what I've seen in the field, members are the key to helping bring new people into the chruch. Investigators can see us missionaries, day in day out dressed the same, talking about the good word to everyone, but once they see a "normal" person who consecrates all things in their life to the Lord, it really changes lives.
Weekly Conference Talk
Aligning Our Will with His - Elder Ulisses Soares
PDAY!
We headed up to Vargem Grande to a card shop where we played the best card game of all time: Magic the Gathering.
We did a draft format with the newer set, Duskmourn! Was super fun with the four other missionaries in my Zone that play Magic
Afterwards, we headed home and contacted todo mundo on the phone and had a great lesson with Wellington's family to mark a date for the São Paulo Templo Centro de Visitantes!
Wednesday
We taught the first lesson to Victor but he was super sick, almost to the point of fainting. We think he got sick because he tried fasting (jejum) for the first time bc he heard we were doing it… he didn't eat or drink anything for like 10 hours and his body couldn't handle it.
missed the ônibus to Irmã Natalina's house, but halfway we caught an ônibus Headed that way, and on that bus was Steffanny! She's the oldest daughter of Wellington. I don't believe in coincidences! I believe in miracles. Talked a bit with her which was awesome.
On the way home we visited Fábio, and we talked to his mother-in-law who cried when we showed her a snippet of President Nelson's most recent talk.
Thursday
Oh man. Today we had zero compromissos so we hit the road all day, hitting up every point in our book that didn't live in Cachoeira or Grilos. Not much success
Later at night, walking home, our literal neighbor called out to us that her kids would like to go to church with us! We had a mini lesson about prayer and promised to come back
Friday
Conferência de Elders!!
Every single Elder in our mission gathered in the center of São Paulo to have a conference with President Hunt, his Counselors, and Stake President Almeida of Cotia. It was INCREDIBLE, with a focus on our personal worth, the worth of the people we teach, and the importance of having, growing, and strengthening our personal testimonies.
After we got home, we did some service at Irmã Arlene’s home because she just had a baby! We moved a bed frame and mattress downstairs to a room that's easier to take care of the baby.
Saturday
Saturday we went to Seminary and helped our with the ward's Dia de Crianças celebration. It was so funny because Elder Madsen had a baptism at the same time, and the kids he was baptizing were jumping on the trampoline we had there in their baptismal clothing Lol.
Later, we went to the Centro de Visitantes with Wellington's entire family!! We had decided to focus of the Plan of Salvation and Eternal Families. We had two INCREDIBLE Sisters, Sister Cox and Souza. I'm so grateful I was called to the only mission in Brazil with a Temple Visitors Center. It truly is a blessing. While talking about the Plan of Salvation, we were able to mark dates for EVERY SINGLE one of them, all SIX. Wellington and his son Pedro want to be baptized so bad, but Florisbela and Steffanny need a little bit more time to learn. But a marked date is only a goal.
After the CDV, driving home, Wellington related a dream he had when he was wondering which church was true. He told us that in his dream, two faceless bright white men, vested in missionary clothing opened a singular, lonely door without a wall. This was crazy to hear, so frickn cool!! So grateful to mark dates in an area that hasn't baptized in 8 months!
Sunday
BLITZ DAY
We had Sacrament Meeting as usual, Victor came with us all dressed up suit and everything.
After church, we had a big luncheon with the ward and the Elders in our District.
After lunch, we divided up Elders and Members and did a huge dispersion of visits to inactive members and non-member friends! Was a huge success inviting people to our Ward Conference and marking visits in our Area Book.
Spent the rest of the relating all the visits in our Book
Monday
We had District Counsel! Foi otimo, talvez vou compartilhar alguns pensamentos espirituais nos tivemos lá com voces.
We spent the whole day in the Grilos, the southernmost part of our area. We don't have much to do there bc its just farmland. We had lunch there with an Irmã, which was amazing. She made homemade dingdongs which were DELICIOUS.
We had another Noite Familiar with Wellington's family at Irmã Rose's house! I led out the meeting and we talked about the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Was amazing!! Very spiritual, Wellington said that even if the rest of his family doesn't want to be baptized, he wants to. We've been thinking, if his whole family doesn't come to church this Sunday, we'll baptize Wellington here soon first, and two weeks after his baptism he can recieve the Priesthood and baptize his own family!!
