Eaí meus grande amigos! Como vocês estão?? Another week another email, these weeks are flying by because we are having so much fun working hard here in Caucaia!! Vamos começar!
PENSAMENTO ESPIRITUAL
This weeks Spiritual Thought comes with the theme of this past week's thanksgiving!! From President Thomas S Monson's talk, "The Divine Gift of Gratitude" in 2010, I found this lovely excerpt:
"How can we cultivate within our hearts an attitude of gratitude?
President Joseph F. Smith, sixth President of the Church, provided an answer. Said he: “The grateful man sees so much in the world to be thankful for, and with him the good outweighs the evil. Love overpowers jealousy, and light drives darkness out of his life.” He continued: “Pride destroys our gratitude and sets up selfishness in its place. How much happier we are in the presence of a grateful and loving soul, and how careful we should be to cultivate, through the medium of a prayerful life, a thankful attitude toward God and man!”
President Smith is telling us that a prayerful life is the key to possessing gratitude.
Do material possessions make us happy and grateful? Perhaps momentarily. However, those things which provide deep and lasting happiness and gratitude are the things which money cannot buy: our families, the gospel, good friends, our health, our abilities, the love we receive from those around us. Unfortunately, these are some of the things we allow ourselves to take for granted.
The English author Aldous Huxley wrote, “Most human beings have an almost infinite capacity for taking things for granted.” We often take for granted the very people who most deserve our gratitude. Let us not wait until it is too late for us to express that gratitude.""
Meus queridos amigos, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving day. I hope you took the time to really think about all the things you have been blessed with. And don't let the thanksgiving end on Thanksgiving!! Continue everyday to look for daily miracles and blessings!!
It was strange not to have a big Thanksgiving dinner. Brasil doesn’t celebrate this holiday, so it was an amazing opportunity to share some of my culture!!
WEEK RECAP
• Last Pday was Zone Pday!! We went to the stake center and played soccer and made some burgers!! Fireee
• We had house inspections and our house passed!! We had minimal clutter and only had to throw out an old fan!
• Visited Irmã Bonifácio!! Her son Araldo was wearing an Arizona Diamondbacks hat!
• Visited Eliana, that lady who Elder Silva and I miraculously healed! She wanted us to give a blessing to her daughter. We are going to try to get her going to church and maybe to the Visitor's Center!!
• on Quinta-feira (Thursday) it POURED rain on us do nada (out of nowhere) and I had forgotten my umbrella hahah. My tag got nice and wet iykyk
• Sexta-feira we spent the day in the Grilos, a part of out mission that is an hour away by bus. We spent most of the day painting Rose’s house green, and at night we had two amazing lessons, one with Wellington’s family and the other with Paloma's family!
• Its cool because Paloma's family believes in God and Jesus Christ, but had never been part of a church, so we get to teach them and build their faith from the ground up!! They are getting more comfortable with prayer and reading the Book of Mormon and promised to come to church next Sunday!
• Sábado (Saturday) morning the two Elders Quorums of wards Caucaia 1 and 2 spent a lot of time deep cleaning the capela!! Afterward we had a delicious Churrasco with everyone. Wellington and his kids came!!
• Saturday night we went to the São Paulo Temple Visitors Center with Fabio's family! They loved it!! We talked about the Plan of Salvation and eternal families!! Fábio is very interested, but his wife is still pretty adamant about staying a member of the Assembleia de Deus
• Sunday we had 11 investigators at church!!
• Spent some time that night watching the Brazilian version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire?" with Irmã Fatima. It's interesting because one million reais is equivalent to 166000 US dollars, and that makes you really rich here. The guy did good, but he got stumped on the last question so he got half a million! Anyone knows what year and what country the first ever picture was taken?
• Monday morning we headed up to Vargem Grande to have our interviews with President Hunt!! I love the guy so much!! The interviews went great, I'll talk more about that in a sec. Afterward he stuffed 10 missionaries in his car and took us all to lunch!!
• Monday night we had a lesson in the Grilos with Paloma's family which went great!
• We also had dinner with Wellington’s family where Florisbela, his wife, made us food from Northeastern Brasil!! It was delicious!!
• After dinner, I gave them some news, gave a lesson and remarked their baptismal dates for the 15th of December, and promised them that our Mission President would be there with the Stake President, who both want to meet the family!! They accepted to prepare for this date, so please pray for them!!
It was cool to have interviews with President so late in the transfer, cool enought that he told me my transfer news 1 week early!! Here's the plan:
I will be leaving Caucaia and the Cotia Zone and am headed to the Campo Limpo Zone in the Catanduva B area!
My companion will be Elder Gardner, who actually arrived in the mission field the exact same time as me, so we both have just over 5 months experience! I dont know him because he studied at the Provo MTC and I was in the Brasil CTM. He is from the States, I forget where, but I'll get to know him on Dec 11th!!
I'm super excited!!
Thanks for reading!! Update me on whats up, how was your Thanksgiving, tell me what you were most grateful for!! Love you guys so much!! Stay firm in Christ!
Elder Stock
PS.
I also found this on the Church News, I don't know how recently this was but it was fun to see some familiar faces!!
